Services

Where we help

Each engagement puts a former Fortune-scale technology executive alongside your leadership team. We set direction, hold delivery accountable and stay until the work runs without us.

AI to production

AI Delivery Acceleration

Most enterprises have proven AI in pilots. The constraint is now the delivery engine: how fast infrastructure is provisioned and how safely AI connects to the systems that run the business.

  • Automated, self-service infrastructure provisioning delivered as code
  • API and integration architecture for LLM programs
  • Security, identity and data controls for regulated data
  • One prioritized backlog shared by AI and Technology teams
Regulatory confidence

Technology Governance & Remediation

Consent orders, supervisory findings and audit gaps need a remediation program regulators believe in. Michael has led that work at AIG, USAA and Kaiser Permanente, including serving as board liaison.

  • Remediation program design and executive oversight
  • Control frameworks for IT, cyber and resilience
  • Translating findings and progress for boards and regulators
Board level

Board & Executive Advisory

Independent judgment for directors and CEOs on where technology risk is concentrating, where modernization creates or erodes value, and which AI and cyber decisions need sharper oversight.

  • Technology, risk, cyber and AI committee advisory
  • Independent reviews of strategic programs
  • Technology investment and spend transparency
Operating rhythm

Organizational Performance & Transition

Large technology organizations stall on handoffs, unclear ownership and missing cadence. We install the rhythm that makes delivery predictable and support leadership transitions.

  • Capability, capacity and alignment assessments
  • Daily standups, weekly delivery reviews, executive reporting
  • Direction of third-party engineering partners
  • Handover and onboarding support for incoming leaders

Approach

A twelve-week engagement, built to outlast us

A typical AI delivery acceleration engagement runs twelve weeks. Hours are front-loaded to assess and align, then taper as your teams take ownership.

  • Advisory, with accountability. Your people and your chosen partners do the engineering. We set direction, remove blockers and hold the plan to its dates.
  • Measured from month one. Baselines and targets are agreed with the executive sponsor in the first weeks and tracked weekly.
  • Billed for work done. Time-based fees with a ceiling, and no minimum weekly charge.
  • Independent. No financial interest in any vendor or third party we direct.
Week 1

Assess

Interviews with Technology, AI and business leaders. Review of plans, architecture and delivery metrics.

Week 2

Align

A two-day onsite working session to validate delivery plans, set the weekly schedule and confirm baselines.

Week 3

Mobilize

Daily standups launched, resources adjusted, and blockers escalated to the executive sponsor.

Weeks 4–6

Accelerate

Momentum built on daily deliverables. Early feedback gathered from business stakeholders.

Weeks 7–12

Deliver & transition

Delivery completed against plan. Next-quarter and sustainment plans handed over to the team.

Typical targets

−50%
lead time to provision a standard environment
3–5
priority infrastructure patterns delivered as code
Prod-ready
APIs connecting AI programs to core and SaaS systems
85%+
of weekly delivery commitments met

Targets are set with each client against a measured baseline.

Merrill Lynch First Vice President, Global Network & Infrastructure September 2001
Resilience under pressure

A trading floor rebuilt in four days after 9/11

The attacks took out Merrill's capital markets systems at the World Financial Center, and there was no disaster recovery site for them. Michael's team moved $8B of client funds to London, then built a new trading center in Jersey City from nothing. On September 15 he and fourteen colleagues walked into the damaged headquarters in respirators to recover the backup media. With fiber cut across Lower Manhattan, they linked the sites with a free-space laser across the Hudson River.

Merrill Lynch was ready to trade when U.S. markets reopened on September 17.

  • 18,500tapes and drives recovered from the site
  • 9,000traders, bankers and analysts supported
Wells Fargo Chief Technology Officer From 2021
Modernization & spend transparency

Next-generation infrastructure for a $1.9T bank

Led an 8,000-person global organization through the company's digital infrastructure strategy. Opened four new data centers built for efficiency, moved the organization onto Agile, product and cloud operating models, and gave every employee a path to cloud certification. Partnered with Finance to price technology products so business lines could see their spend and move off legacy platforms.

  • 4new data centers opened
  • $3B+technology spend mapped to 24 products
  • 8Kcolleagues upskilled for cloud
USAA Enterprise Chief Information Officer 2018–2021
Regulatory remediation

Rebuilding control and trust at a digital bank and insurer

Reconstituted a 12,000-person, $2.2B IT organization serving military members and their families. Served as board liaison for IT and information security remediation under multiple consent orders and a cease-and-desist order. Moved the company to public cloud, modernized core insurance and standardized core banking. Partnered with State Farm on an industry-first blockchain pilot for subrogation.

  • −66%service impairments after the resiliency program
  • 12Kperson organization reconstituted

AIG Global Chief Technology Officer 2015–2018
AI & automation at scale

From post-crisis remediation to machine-learning operations

One of four executive restructuring leaders after the 2008 crisis. Unified technology across 95 countries, consolidated 17 directories into one identity platform, and met every G-SIFI requirement on the way to AIG's 2017 de-designation as a systemically important institution. Then launched ARIES, a machine-learning virtual engineer that diagnosed and fixed outages, and moved insurance pricing from a 90-day cycle to overnight.

  • 60%+of outages resolved by the ARIES co-bot
  • −50%outages after IT operations stabilized
  • 10×faster application releases
Kaiser Permanente SVP Technology & Infrastructure, Chief Information Security Officer 2009–2015
Cyber & clinical continuity

Stabilizing one of the world's largest health record systems

Took over infrastructure after publicly reported failures and low morale. Directed a seven-year, board-accountable $1.8B modernization from data centers to operating rooms, and stepped in as CISO to harden security across every clinical application. The program achieved the organization's first independent auditor cybersecurity approval.
